Accommodation in South West France
The house sleeps 6-8 easily (we can do up to 10 at a pinch, but we do charge a small supplement for extra guests over 8 because of the extra organisation and cleaning involved, likewise for dogs) There are 3 double bedrooms - 2 with double beds, 1 with 2 pairs of bunk beds. The living room also has 2 double sofa beds. We also have a Mamas and Papas cot with matching mattress for babies. The bathroom includes a toilet, bidet, basin and bath (with shower), washing machine and hair drier. There is also a second smaller shower room with loo. Linen and towels are provided and beach towels and robes for the pools. Extra laundry and cleaning services can be booked with Emma, who looks after the house for us, if required.
There is a very efficient air con system to cool the hot summer air; for cooler evenings it can be switched to heat mode, or for the depths of winter there is a traditional wood burning stove.
There are many walks, runs and rides around the area with lots of wildlife, particularly birds, butterflies and wild flowers. (It's wonderful watching the kestrels and hawks as they hover!). Within easy reach, there are also many interesting historic places and markets to visit - including many historic Bastide walled towns. Other activities in the area include a bowling alley, go karting, horse riding, fishing, health spas - plus there are a host of possible day excursions.
Local airports (Bergerac 35-40 minutes, Bordeaux and Toulouse approximately 90 minutes) offer cheap flights from the U.K.
Suggested tours in the area by car, bicycle, walking, and even horse riding are detailed in various maps, tourists' publications and Michelin Guides. There are local tourist offices in Miramont and Marmande.
There are a number of restaurants where you can sample French cooking at its best at very reasonable prices and try some of the local specialities. This area of France is famous for an interesting array of ingredients - in particular geese, prunes, and hazelnuts ... and we would definitely recommend visiting some of the local vineyards where you can stock up with wonderful wine for very little outlay.
